Senators Boyer and Hartling visited the hamlet to learn about positive changes for the Micmac First Nation community. Buctouche Micmac Band, once known as Sigenigtog, was established in 1810 on one of the traditional hunting districts of the Micmac Band. Though temporarily abandoned in 1924, then resettled in 1981, the Band has grown to 117 members.
